Spirits do enjoy visiting lots of different places, but it’s be great if they were actually there when you arrive! Turns out, Bruce & Mickey are pretty slow during their travels and sometimes will get to Greymist Peaks later than they intended!
Try Save & Quit. If it doesn’t work, just wait a couple of in-game days, then come back to the island: they’ll be waiting for you there.
