Game We Loved 2024
Looking for a recommendation for games to play this holidays? Check out our list of all the games we loved in 2024!
Hey everyone!
Our annual tradition is here for its… 7th Edition! How time flies!
As the year comes to a close, we take a look back at all the games we, developers, have played this year to find the ones we enjoyed the most and share them with the rest of our colleagues as recommendations for the holiday period.
Honestly, Game Devs don’t have as much leisure and gaming time as they’d like, so the holidays is often the best time for us to bring through the games we might’ve missed this year!
Got any new games that missed our list?
Please share your favorite game of 2024 on our Discord, Twitter or Facebook !
Now, without further ado and in no particular order, here are the Games We Loved in 2024!
Games We Loved in 2024
Rabbit and Steel
mino_dev
“An amazing dilution of MMO raids inside of a multiplayer roguelike. Really nails the complexity of a bullethell with the mechanics of MMO-raids. It’s a lot of fun,, and really challenging. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in need of a fix for a raid, but don’t want to have to deal with the long queues… or need to scratch a 33 Immortals-shaped itch until 2025.”
Snufkin : Melody of Moominvalley
Hyper Games
“Sometimes, when the world is on fire, all you need is to rebel from the authorities, and chill with some moomins.”
Tactical Breach Wizards
Suspicious Developments
“Pitch perfect turn-based tactics in a bonkers wizards-in-tactical-gear setting. It’s the great storytelling – featuring the funniest writing I’ve seen in a game this year – that really puts this one over the top.”
Minishoot’ Adventures
SoulGame Studio
“OMG! What an awesome gem here! 🤩💎
Strongly recommended by 2 of my friends, they weren’t wrong! 💯
It’s a twin-stick shooter action Zelda-like exploration and adventure. This game is so great from start to finish! Level design is perfect, visuals are really cute, UX is good, the possibility to reshuffle your points in your upgrade tree is just perfect, you can never go wrong! Seriously everything fits so much together!
I haven’t played with the accessibility settings, but seriously, with it, even if you’re not too much into that kind of game you just have no excuse to not play it!”
Mouthwashing
Wrong Organ
“Excellent indie horror that gets the details right. Wears its influences on its sleeves (most notable to me were ALIEN, The Shining and Neon Genesis Evangelion) while also tackling themes in a different way than its inspirations. I have too much to say to recommend this game but I’ll keep it to: I have not stopped thinking about it since I played it.”
“Super cool story that subverts your expectations with its narrative choices and non-linear storytelling. The horror is well sprinkled and really enhances the atmosphere of the ship. The characters are all memorable (and fun to draw). Even if the story is the main course, there is still enough to do to not make it feel too much like a walking sim”
Nova drift
Chimeric
“Came out of early access this year, excellent game that kept on getting better”
Broken Lens
Team RUN
“A really fun spot-the-differences game with cute, interesting art and music! The game is easy enough and challenging at times but not super hard. It feels really satisfying when you complete 100% in the illustration! My only con is about the zoom-in on specific hidden objects that are on the edge of the screen..It’s quite hard to find some stuff.”
Lorelei and the Laser Eyes
Simogo
“I remember how I instantly added Lorelei to my list as soon as I saw the reveal trailer.
Wonderful very unique art direction and mysterious spooky manor to explore?
It was so fascinating to open this game without knowing what was inside, and the puzzles didn’t disappoint!”
“Loved all the puzzles and the vibes are immaculate.”
#BLUD
Exit 73 Studios
“Nice 2D Zelda like adventure with good humor. The strongest point though is the animation which is so impactful and fun, I don’t think it could be any better at what it’s trying to do.”
Animal Well
Billy Basso
“It feels a bit tough at some point, but talking with others who have played the game made me realize that none of us were starting in the same direction, so from that moment, I knew you could never really go in the wrong direction. Just keep digging and you’ll find your way.
And the joy, pleasure and happiness that comes from the moment you find that small thing you missed previously or just from the way they’ve done the game and gives you the possibility to do so much is just awesome.”
“I won’t lie, I came to this game expecting to fulfil my craving for knowledge-based games after Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye shook me last year. And I discovered one of the most refreshing Metroidvania who managed to get away from the overused double jump, airdash and walljump powerups from the genre.“
7 Days to Die
The Fun Pimps
“The game has been in early access since 1866 (more or less) and was finally released this year (the 1.0 patch notes were basically, “We changed the build version from 0.21A to 1.0,” but that’s beside the point). The game is incredible in its genre: it’s a survival-crafting-base-building-RPG-open-world game where you survive, craft, build a base, fire rpgs, explore the open world, fight zombies and discover a cure for the virus to save the world (I made that last part up; there’s no storyline).
What makes this game great is the fact that you can shape it to your playstyle/mood and even that doesn’t have to stay the same from session to session. One session, you might explore and fight zombies; the next, you might stay at the base to craft food (and get yelled at by your friends for the lack of it) and sort through the ridiculous amount of loot the explorers brought back (of course, broken glass could be useful). Or maybe you’re in a base building mood and spend hours crafting your base from the thousands of shapes available. The character progression and world difficulty are designed so no single character can do everything, which is fantastic in multiplayer because it means everyone has to take on a role. It’s just as fun in single-player because you have to get creative to accomplish anything meaningful and survive in the late game.
The lack of an “official goal/story” is a bit disappointing, but it’s on their roadmap. In the meantime, there are some great overhaul mods, with Darkness Falls leading the pack.
All in all, it’s a great game. Highly recommend. (And yes, I’m absolutely trying to justify the 1,250 hours I’ve spent playing it.)”
Balatro
LocalThunk
“I became addicted to this roguelike deck-building game. The little cards animations are so satisfying.”
““Just one more game”“
“Numbers go brrr makes brain happy.
This little roguelike card game takes poker and shoots it to the stratosphere. It is addicting, fun, short and satisfying take on solo poker that’s really worth checking out!”
“Another year, another roguelike deckbuilder obsession. Somehow, Balatro nails it by paring it down, instead of fluffing it up. Since it came to mobile, it just got that much harder to put down.“
“Have I ever played Poker? No.
Has this game taught me how to play poker?
Also no.
Have I spent an ungodly amount of time thirsting after a high score to show my friends?
… Maybe”
Helldivers 2
Arrowhead Game Studios
“FOR DEMOCRACY!!
FOR MALEVELON CREEK!!!
*Sponsored by the Ministry of Truth. You better read this or it is treason.“
“It’s just the vibes. Get your buds, get your guns, dive in, do a few missions, kill some bugs (or robots, I guess), and get out. It’s lightning in a bottle.”
“SWEET LIBERTY– MY LEG!!”
“⬆️➡️⬇️⬇️⬇️, FOR DEMOCRACY!”
“Mines are good i swear”
Zenless Zen Zero
Hoyoverse
“A beat ‘em up that oozes style. Miyoverse did it again with yet another Gacha game that takes over my mornings.”
“Hoyoverse strikes again.”
“Like my fellow colleagues, Miyoverse did it again! ZZZ has a fun combat system, interesting story and godly animation!
GIVE ME ELLEN OR JANE PLEASE T-T”
“Gacha >:(
Animations :◯”
Persona 3 Reload
ATLUS
“Possibly the one remake that all other remakes should aspire to. Keeps the essence of the original, while adding 18 years worth of Quality of Life improvements. (3 is the best Persona, don’t @ me)”
“A beautiful love letter to the original game while bringing some much needed QoL to the mix. I could not have wished for a better remake (and yes I love it more than P5)”
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
FromSoftware
“Dangit Griffith.”
“FromSoftware raised the bar of their already high DLC standards. The amount of content made it feel more like a sequel than a DLC. A must-grab for anyone who wanted more content from the base game!”
“so much to do, so much to see so what’s wrong with spending hours on end trying to beat pre nerf Radahn. One of the best DLC’s I’ve ever played, it’s literally a full game on its own.”
My list of games to play keep getting longer and longer every year! 😱
Seems like Balatro was on everyone’s radar this year, which is unsurprising considering how addicting it was! Hope you found something you’re interested in playing this holiday season! Don’t forget to share your 2024 favorites on our Discord, Twitter or Facebook !
Thanks for reading and we’ll see you in 2025! Have a fantastic holiday season!
