Hello Immortals!

Welcome to our second Dev Diary, where I take you behind the scenes of 33 Immortals development, walk you through the most recent changes in the game, answer the most frequent community questions and sometimes share nerdy graphs.

We just released Update #3 and that’s what I’m gonna talk about in this blog. Let’s go!

UPDATE #3 IS LIVE NOW!

We’re back with a new update, which was just showcased at Gamescom! 🥳

33 Immortals - Update #3 art

This one’s packed with new Elite monsters, daily events, shiny loot, and more. We’ve also added a few community requested features, which I’ll cover after. But first:

New Stuff

1. Unique Elites

They’re bigger and stronger, and they also drop better loot: say hi to Unique Elites! We were looking for ways to add a little co-op challenge for you, outside of bosses, so we’ve added this new enemy type to the game. We created 4 new Elites per world, each with their own new set of attacks.

Unique Elites are HARD and can challenge an 11-player group. While they’re based on existing monsters, they have different attack patterns and a third attack designed to give you a hard time. They also have some unpredictable patterns that will keep you on your toes. They can teleport, they can dash, they have crazy AOE attacks… they’re our new best friends and we hope you’ll like them 💖

You can only find one Elite per run, patrolling the Beyond. When you stumble upon one, an alert will be sent to the whole lobby along with an indicator on your map.

We wanted to make them stand out from other monsters in the Beyond and their color palette reflects that intention. From the aura around them, to the sigil on the ground, to the fact that they’ll aggro you as soon as they see you: if you cross a Unique Elite’s patrol path, trust me, you’ll know.

2. Daily Call To Arms

Beatrice has summoned all rebel souls! Every day, answer Beatrice’s Call To Arms and gather together at specific times to get a buff and collect special loot. That’s the perfect strategy to tackle those Unique Elites, farm Eternal Shards, or increase your chances of defeating our two bosses. The buffs can change every day and can give you more attack, health, or empathy. We’ll be experimenting with them to see what works best.

Call To Arms

The Call To Arms will have the following schedule:

  • Every day, 8pm – 10pm EDT on NA server
  • Every day, 10pm – 12am CEST on EU server
  • NA: +9 stats, +10% shards
  • EU: +9 stats, +30% shards

These daily events work as an incentive to gather together at specific times and address the frustration we heard from some players saying that they sometimes have difficulty finding a full lobby depending on when they start a new run. It should now be easier to find full lobbies if you launch your session when the Call to Arms starts! The above schedule is subject to change depending on the stats we collect.

3. Legendary Weapon Skins

I remember some players in the community asking for more cosmetics to grind for, so hear me out: we added Lucifer and A&E legendary weapon skins! We wanted to give people another rarity of customisation using our 2D tech, and we decided to go for shiny weapons with customised particles.

These new weapon skins are inspired by the bosses they’re designed after:

  • Lucifer Legendary Weapon skin has icy particles following you
  • Adam & Eve glow pink and yellow with flowers floating around you

They have a chance to drop after defeating the bosses (emphasis on chance), but bragging rights will come to those who persevere!

4. Improved experience for new players

Good news for new players: Beatrice will now give you significant rewards if you beat her (almost) impossible torture chamber! That’s the chamber she sends you to during the tutorial, where you get swamped by enemies and die (that’s intentional, don’t panic).

Some very dedicated players made a point to beat that torture chamber and we felt bad to only reward them with Beatrice saying that she’s impressed. So we added some more incentives: IF you’re up to the challenge, you’ll be rewarded with:

  • A random Perk Token – meaning you’ll start the game with 2 tokens instead of 1
  • A Minos Veil Rare Cape – it’s a random drop you can get while playing, and you’ll get it before everyone else
  • 75 Eternal Shards

We don’t want to encourage FOMO so none of these rewards are “missable” content. Everybody will end up getting the rewards at some point, but players who prove themselves will get them before everyone else.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This feature is essentially for new players. If you’ve done Beatrice’s torture chamber before, be careful as you can only go back to the tutorial by deleting your saved data, which I’m pretty sure you don’t want to do.

Another thing we’ve added are hints to the loading screens! Including the golden rule: make sure you have a key before entering a torture chamber!!! 🗝️

Community Requests

1. Daily Quest requirements in Weapon Feats are gone – RIP

I think I can safely say that was your least favorite Minor Feat in the game. You didn’t like being time-gated by that specific Feat, and we got a lot of reports from players saying it was a hassle and didn’t feel good to lock progression behind something that felt like a chore rather than a fun game progression mechanic, which we understand. So we decided to get rid of the Feat altogether.

It’s been replaced by a Dash Combo Feat! Dash combos were introduced in Update #2 and allow you to combine dashing with an ability or an attack to make it even stronger. You’re probably wondering what happens if you’ve already completed the Daily Quest Feat:

  • Players who have completed some of the Daily Quest Minor Feats will see the equivalent Dash Combo Feat already completed to prevent a loss of progress.
  • Players who have started progressing on a Daily Quest Minor Feats but not completed it will see that Feat reset.

2. More Daily Quests Improvements

We added another improvement to how Daily Quests work, following players’ feedback.

  • A reset timer: many of you requested to know when new quests will be available, so there you go!
  • Incremental rewards when making progress: we felt 12 quests without a reward was a bit much, so you’ll now be rewarded with Eternal Shards when you complete Daily Quests, as you progress towards the Quest Chest
  • Better Quest Chest rewards: the Chest Quest will now have a chance to drop cosmetics, perks tokens or weapon upgrade tokens

3. Wishes That Actually Come True

You know that feeling when you wish for something… and it never shows up? I’m looking at you, Relics.

We could tell you weren’t too happy about how the wish system works. Good news: wishing for relics will now be more rewarding! When you wish for a relic of a certain rarity, the first relic drop of that rarity will be guaranteed to be the one you wished for.

4. Streamer friendly UI

Streamers, we heard you! Before the update, you couldn’t hide the names of people in your party, or even your own. Players now have the option to show all player names, only party names, or none at all. That’ll help with streamers’ privacy and prevent  “creative” usernames from popping up on your screen.

Community Rewards

1. Altar Of Immortality

The Altar of Immortality has been erected in Dark Woods. Pay it a visit and learn more about Team Lazurite, who won the Race to Immortality back in March! The Altar pays tribute the four leaders of Team Lazurite, with a beautiful shield showing each streamer’s sigil:

Congratulations to all the Immortals who supported Team Lazurite in the Race to Immortality! More rewards are on the way, as we’re currently working on adding Team Lazurite’s legendary weapon skins to the game. More about that in one of our next updates!

2. Race To Immeowtality

The Race to Immeowtality winner, aka the Legendary Cat, has joined the rebellion! He’s adorable and he has cute paw particles flying around him when he walks. You can get the cat by using the following Redeem Code in game: 8216-3397

3. Lucido Hunting Party

The Lucido Hunting Party is officially over, and you guys crushed the goal in less than a month! Honestly, you reached the objective WAY faster than we anticipated! Based on the data we had, we thought it would take about three months. So, uh… we’re very sorry for underestimating you.

As a reward, a brand new Lucido Halo and an adorably goofy Lucido Pet have been added to 33 Immortals! Now, there’s a story behind this little companion. Back when we first started developing the game, we used a placeholder Lucido with nothing more than a wobbly two-frame walk cycle. The team couldn’t help but find it ridiculously cute (who wouldn’t??), and jokingly begged to keep its placeholder design forever, a request which was met with a “haha, no”.

But over time, we changed our minds. We thought it’d be meaningful and fun to put that piece of our beginnings into the game itself. The version you’ll find in 33 Immortals is polished just a bit, but it still carries the same quirky spirit. To share the full story, we’ve even included a recording of the very first Lucido, exactly as he was when we first met him.

The Lucido rewards are redeemable right now. Use this code to get them (Options> Redeem Code): 8210-9972

So many rewards, wow!

Community Questions

No but seriously, new weapons when?

Sooooon! We know you’re impatient for new weapons, and as we said in our previous Dev Diary, we’re cooking, and like every good meal, good food needs time in the oven. As a reminder, we’re working on two new weapons. During the last month we’ve made progress on designing the attack patterns, we’re now working on designing the co-op powers while exploring very cool animations in parallel. Trust me, we’re as impatient as you are! As soon as we’re ready to share more information, we’ll let you know!

About that 999+ co-strike counter…

Not a question but something worth mentioning: the co-strike counter going above 999 in Update #2 is a bug. And we addressed it as soon as we noticed, that’s why it’s been fixed in Update #3. But guess what: sometimes bugs do become features. And we saw that you’ve been enjoying seeing those co-strikes numbers go as high as possible so we’ll be bringing the “feature” back in our next update! What will be the new cap, you ask? The only way to find out will be to try and break the record.

That’s it for today! If you have a question you’d like me to cover in our next Dev Diary, let me know via Discord or Reddit! And please share your feedback about Update #3 via this form, it really helps us improve 33 Immortals!

Until next time, Rebel Souls!
